Quick answer: measure your wall's width and height in feet, multiply them for square footage, divide by 11, and round up. Each of our panels is 40" x 40" and covers 11 sq ft. A 10ft x 6ft wall is 60 sq ft, which is 6 panels. That's the whole formula - the rest of this guide covers the edge cases that trip people up.
The Formula, With Worked Examples
| Wall size | Square feet | Panels (sq ft ÷ 11, rounded up) | Suggested fixings (9 per panel) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6ft x 4ft (small feature) | 24 | 3 | 27 |
| 10ft x 6ft (typical fence run) | 60 | 6 | 54 |
| 16ft x 6ft (full fence line) | 96 | 9 | 81 |
| 20ft x 8ft (commercial feature) | 160 | 15 | 135 |
Why You Rarely Need a Spare Panel
Panels clip together on all sides and cut cleanly with ordinary scissors, so the offcuts from trimming one edge fill the gaps on another. For rectangular walls, the rounded-up count is genuinely all you need. Where you should add one extra panel: walls with lots of penetrations (taps, meters, lights) where you'll lose material to cut-outs, or diagonal/curved edges where offcuts are the wrong shape to reuse.
Odd-Shaped and Partial Walls
For an L-shaped or stepped wall, split it into rectangles, calculate each, and add the square footage together before dividing by 11 - dividing each section separately and rounding each up will overcount. For a gable or triangle, use width x height ÷ 2 for that section.
Don't Forget the Fixings
Allow roughly 9 fixing points per panel - corners, mid-edges and center - and go to 12+ in windy or exposed positions. The fixing type depends on your surface: UV zip ties for mesh and chain-link, screw-washer-plug kits for timber and drywall, self-drilling screws for brick and cement board. All of them are in our Install Parts collection, and ordering them with your panels means one delivery and no mid-install hardware-store run.
Not Sure? Two Free Safety Nets
First, send us your wall dimensions (photos help) and we'll confirm the panel count before you order - we do this every day and it costs nothing. Second, if you're choosing between foliage styles, order $15 sample panels of your shortlist and check them against your wall in real light. A $30 sampling decision beats a $300 guess.
