Installing an artificial green wall is a genuine DIY job: most walls are finished in an afternoon with tools you already own. This guide covers measuring, choosing fixings for your surface, and the install itself.

Step 1: Measure and Count Your Panels

Measure the width and height of your wall or fence in feet and multiply for total square footage. Each of our panels is 40" x 40" and covers 11 sq ft, so divide your total by 11 and round up. A 10ft x 6ft wall = 60 sq ft = 6 panels.

Panels clip together along their edges and trim cleanly with scissors, so offcuts fill odd gaps - you rarely need an extra panel for irregular shapes. If you're unsure, send us your dimensions and we'll confirm the count before you order.

Step 2: Choose the Right Fixings for Your Surface

The fixing method depends entirely on what you're mounting to:

  • Chain-link, mesh or wire fence: UV-rated zip ties - thread through the panel grid and the fence, done. Standard cable ties perish in the sun within a season; UV-rated ties last as long as the panels.
  • Timber fence, drywall or plaster: screw, washer and plug kit. The washer spreads the load so the panel grid never tears.
  • Brick, render or cement board: self-drilling screws with washers, or wall plugs with the matching drill bit.
  • Hanging discs and baskets: stainless steel S-hooks.

Allow roughly 9 fixing points per panel - four corners, mid-edges and center - and add more in windy, exposed locations. All fixings are in our Install Parts & Accessories collection and ship together with your panels.

Step 3: Install

  1. Start bottom-left. Fix your first panel level - everything keys off it.
  2. Clip and fix as you go. Connect each new panel to the last using the built-in clips, then add fixings. Work in rows.
  3. Trim to fit. Cut panels with ordinary scissors or shears to follow edges, corners, taps and fittings. Cut through the backing grid, not the foliage.
  4. Fluff the foliage. Panels ship compressed; spend five minutes teasing leaves forward and over the seams. This is the step that makes joins invisible.

Aftercare

There is none, really. Hose panels down if they get dusty; add a little hand soap for grime. Our foliage carries in-leaf UV inhibitors and holds color for 5+ years outdoors, including full sun, coastal and poolside positions.

Common Questions

Do I need a professional installer? No - the clip-together system is designed for DIY. For large commercial projects, our trade team can advise on layout and quantities.

Can I install over an existing fence? Yes - zip ties onto mesh and chain-link, screws into timber. The panel hides the fence completely.

What about wind? Increase fixing density (12+ points per panel) and fix all four edges. Panels are open-backed so wind passes through rather than loading the panel like a sail.
