Quick answer: divide your wall's square footage by 11 and round up. Each standard artificial green wall panel measures 40" x 40" and covers 11 sq ft. A 10ft wide x 6ft high wall is 60 sq ft, which needs 6 panels. Panels clip together and trim with scissors, so offcuts fill irregular gaps.
The Panel Math, Step by Step
- Measure width and height of the area in feet.
- Multiply them for total square feet.
- Divide by 11 (the coverage of one 40" x 40" panel).
- Round up to the next whole panel.
Common Wall Sizes: Panel Count Reference
| Wall size (W x H) | Square feet | Panels needed | Fixings (approx. 9/panel) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6ft x 6ft | 36 | 4 | 36 |
| 8ft x 6ft | 48 | 5 | 45 |
| 10ft x 6ft | 60 | 6 | 54 |
| 12ft x 6ft | 72 | 7 | 63 |
| 10ft x 8ft | 80 | 8 | 72 |
| 15ft x 6ft (fence run) | 90 | 9 | 81 |
| 20ft x 6ft (fence run) | 120 | 11 | 99 |
| 16ft x 10ft (feature wall) | 160 | 15 | 135 |
Should You Order an Extra Panel?
Usually not. Because panels cut cleanly through the backing grid with ordinary scissors, trimmings from one panel fill gaps elsewhere. The exceptions: heavily broken-up walls (many windows, taps, meters) or projects where you want spare material for future repairs - then add one panel.
Odd Shapes, Columns and Corners
Measure irregular areas as the smallest rectangle that contains them, calculate panels for that rectangle, and trim on site. For wrapped columns, measure the full circumference x height as your width x height. Internal corners need no special treatment - panels butt together; external corners look best when foliage from one panel is teased over the join.
Rolls vs Panels
For long, low runs (like fence toppers), a hedge roll can be more economical: our 10ft x 3.3ft rolls cover 33 sq ft each. For anything taller than 3.3ft, standard 40" x 40" panels tile better and waste less.
Don't Forget Fixings
Allow roughly 9 fixing points per panel (corners, mid-edges, center), and more in windy locations. Which fixing depends on your surface - zip ties for mesh and chain-link, screw kits for timber and drywall, self-drilling screws for brick and cement board. All are in our Install Parts collection and ship with your panels from our California and Miami warehouses.
