A set of 10 artificial garland bushes covers about 25 linear feet butted end to end, or 17 feet at the overlap that makes a run look full. Interconnectable garlands run 63 inches per length and join into a continuous line. Bushes give depth, garlands give line, and most good seasonal installs use both.
Work in linear feet, then pick the format
Measure the run first: mantel width, stair rail length, bar front, doorway perimeter, pergola beam. Then choose format by what the run has to do.
Garland bushes come in sets of 10, each roughly 30 inches long, at $34.95 a set. Butted end to end that is 25 feet, which works out near $1.40 per linear foot. Overlapped by about a third for a dense, no-gaps look you get 17 feet from a set, closer to $2.00 per foot. Foliage options run from tight and formal, such as bamboo leaf and creeping fig, to full and soft, such as the dense Boston fern at 10.6 inches wide.
Interconnectable garlands at 63 inches per length join into an unbroken run and are the faster option for rails and beams. A 20 foot stair rail takes four lengths for a straight run, or six if you want swags with a drop between fixings. A 6 foot mantel takes two, which gives you the width plus tails at each end.
The layering method that reads best: run the interconnectable garland first to establish the line, then push bushes into it at intervals for depth. A single-layer run of anything looks flat under direct light.
Fire rated is not a detail on a commercial install
Most seasonal garland sold in the US is decorative indoor product with no fire performance documentation at all. That is fine on a mantel at home. In a restaurant, hotel lobby, retail store, office reception or any leased commercial space, it is the thing that gets flagged, and it usually gets flagged after the display is up.
Our garland bushes are UV resistant and Fire Rated to AS/NZS 1530.3:1999 - NFPA 701 rated options available on request. If you manage a commercial venue, establish the requirement with your building manager or fire officer before you buy, not in December. If you are adding lights, use low-heat LED strings and check the rating on the light product itself. A rated garland does not carry a rating over to whatever you wrap around it.
Outdoor entries, porches and pergolas
UV rating is what separates greenery that still looks right next season from greenery that goes pale and chalky after one summer of sun. Standard seasonal garland is not UV stabilized, which is why exterior displays so often look tired in their second year.
The UV resistant garlands and interconnectable lengths hold color outdoors. Fix at closer intervals than you would indoors, because wind works fixings loose over a season, and use UV-rated ties rather than standard nylon, which fails within a season outdoors. Holiday color without the live-plant problem
Poinsettia is the classic holiday choice and the classic holiday nuisance: it drops, it hates drafts and cold entryways, and it rarely survives to a second season. An interconnectable poinsettia garland at $14.95 for 63 inches gives the same color line for around $2.85 per foot, holds it in an unheated entry or an exposed porch, and comes back out next year.
Same logic for ivy: a lifelike interconnectable ivy garland runs $17.95 for 63 inches and is the neutral base that works for the holidays, then carries a wedding, an event or a bar front through the rest of the year. Event applications are in artificial hedge walls for weddings and events.
Storage is what makes the economics work
Seasonal greenery is only good value if it comes back out. Two rules cover it.
Do not compress. Box garlands loosely, foliage facing one direction, with nothing heavy on top. Crushed foliage takes a set that never fully recovers.
Do not store hot. An attic that hits 130 degrees in summer will soften and distort stems. A closet, a garage shelf or a stock room is fine.
